I need to replace my turn signal switch (tilt/tele in a 67 CDV).

I have followed the destructions in the shop manual up to where it says 'rotate the column cover counter clockwise and pull off."

There is no way that the cover will turn. I have tried tapping it with a drift, turning by hand and even my 18" handle strap wrench. the thing will not budge. Until I get it off I can't replace my trun signal switch - which means I can't drive my car  Embarrassed

Do any of you guys have an idea of what I have missed or why it won't move?

Thanks!

Does the '67 have the key in the column?  With steering lock?

I've recently pulled apart a '66 TT column, a '66 fixed column (it's still apart), and a '69 TT column.    On all of those, there is a cover attached to the back of the steering wheel.  Not sure if '67 is different.  If you have a picture of where you are at, I might be able to help.

No steering lock, keyswitch is on the dash.

There is a cover on the back of the steering wheel - that is off. It is the column mounted cover taht I can't get off.

I've tried to upload a pic but it keeps crashing on me.....
