Im a new member here and have some questions. I have a 67 cdv 2 dr hardtop. I will be doin the work myself and need to be low budget but safe. 1st whats the most econimical way to install front disc brakes, i will be running the stock wheels, and would like to keep my spindle if someone builds a bracket? 2nd question has anyone used the lower price but new items on ebay? 3rd i also need info on the vacuum lines for under hood, my have all been cut and pieced. I am a younger tech in a new car dealership and also own a 66 suburban but u know u can almost buy chevy truck parts at wal mart so some helpful info would be appreciated.

Welcome,

Disc brakes have been discussed several times.  Rather than re-hashing the same old, I'd suggest you do a couple searches here and review what comes up in the results.

You might find some interesting info in the Documents section which has 1000s of scanned pages of tech articles, Master Parts List, Illustrated Parts catalog, etc.
http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/documents/   Click on the various folders to find more folders and the scanned items.

There's also this write up in the Articles section:    http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/articles/onepiecediscswap/onepiecediscswap.html

Down the road, you might also search threads discussing repairs and modifications for your 429.  They have some tricky issues such as the water pump crossover which can leak.

It's all the same spindle and components from about 1963 through 1968, where disks were an option.  Keep searching the forum as there's LOTS of info on the conversion and which wheels and hub caps will fit.

I went this route and used various Cadillac parts from different years.  The only down side is that you have to change the front wheels to '69 or later disc brake wheels so the caliper will fit. Or you can go with aftermarket wheels.  There are kits on the market that have solved this issue so you can use your stock wheels and hub caps.  I didn't plan on using the stock wheels so it wasn't a problem for me.

You need....................................

YOUR stock  spindle

'69 disc brake bracket

'69 disc brake wheels

'72 calipers and pads

'72 bearings and  seals

'72 rotors

The reason you need  '72 rotors is because the '68-'71 rotors are about TWICE as expensive as the '72 because they changed the design from a 2 piece design to a 1 piece.

If you want to upgrade your brake booster and master cylinder you can use the stock one from a '69 or if you want a smaller booster use the one from a mid 80's Corvette.

One more thing.  You'll need a proportioning valve.  I bought an adjustable one from Jegs.

Hope this helps!!

Plus, the Proportioning Valve goes in the rear line, to stop the rear brakes from locking up before the fronts.

Let us know how you like the Scarebird kit after you get it installed.

BTW.........don't you have to use '69 or later disc brake wheels with their kit?

You do have to run the later wheels for clearance.
